5935_123194674635_647684635_2245755_3449378_nAs soon as I heard about the Burger Beast, I knew I had to get to know him! The French Fry Fairy meets the Burger Beast – I can envision the movie now. Of course, we might be the only ones who actually want to see it.  As it turns out, the Beast has been rating burgers for about a year with his friends, and I was lucky enough to join the group on an excursion to Tom Jenkins BBQ in Fort Lauderdale.

Vegetarians and barbeque restaurants are not usually a good mix, but I was a sport and showed up eager to try the French fries. There was not much on the menu that I was able to eat so I ordered a corn muffin and fries and began to chow down. I don’t actually think they served burgers , but there was plenty of charred carcass to go around. Not my thing… However, I can respect that the meat did smell delicious and everyone really seemed to enjoy their food. Read the rest of this entry »

Dewey’s Tavern, French Fries and Glitter!

Posted by French Fry Fairy On August - 25 - 20093 COMMENTS

DeweysSignBrad, who is one of the funniest people I know, took me to a little corner bar, Dewey’s Tavern, in South Beach to start out our evening. He called me the whole way over giving me reports of adverse weather that was affecting the whole beach. I thought he was making it up. He said it was pouring, but I kept looking out my window and didn’t see a drop of rain. After he got closer to my house, he still insisted that the inclement weather was going to affect the evening. I went outside, looked up at the sky and still did not see a drop of rain. He finally arrived at my house and his car was covered in what looked like water. As we drove to our destination, I noticed puddles all around me. I guess that fairies have amazing powers because it rained on the entire beach, but the showers completely missed my street. No complaints here! Read the rest of this entry »

Coffee or French Fries? The Answer is Both.

Posted by French Fry Fairy On August - 24 - 20092 COMMENTS

NexxtCafe09Each morning I am faced with the decision of whether or not I need coffee to get me through the day. On most days, I can survive without it, but lately I seem to need it as liquid life to sustain my being. The city of Miami Beach decided to set up camp for a team of construction workers right outside my window. Maybe a few months down the road I will appreciate all the work they are doing, but right now I can’t look past the fact that I haven’t slept well in weeks. Sure we have to be considerate of people who go to bed early, so construction workers can’t work too late at night. However, they need to take into consideration the other people, like me, who don’t function very well at 7 a.m. in the morning.  It got so bad, that my friend Emily brought over pink earplugs for me to help ease my frustrations. A Brick of French Fries? Is this Home Depot or a Restaurant?

Posted by French Fry Fairy On August - 17 - 20092 COMMENTS

small 4Monty’s is one of my favorite places for happy hour. I have never really eaten there, so I didn’t know what was on the menu, but I arrived hungry and ready to chow down. As I glanced on the side order section, because that is where I usually find French fries, I saw something that looked like the most amazing idea on the planet. A brick of curly French fries! My eyes lit up, my senses were heightened and my mouth began to water just like one of Pavlov’s dogs.

I ordered the fries and the server asked if I was sure I wanted a full brick. That response made me believe I was in for a treat of a lifetime. I was prepared to enjoy the Mac Daddy of all French fries as I sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for my order to arrive. All of my friends were eager to participate in a one-of-a-kind French fry adventure as well. We were about to eat a brick of French fries and none of us really knew what it meant, but it sounded pretty groovy.

Miami: Versailles is Yummy but what the Heck is Yucca?

Posted by French Fry Fairy On August - 14 - 20091 COMMENT

My neighbor Eddie picked me up for a little Miami adventure. I rarely leave the beach these days, and he thought it was time we ventured out for a little change of pace. Our first stop was work related, so let’s go ahead and skip over that. Boring. Next, we stopped at the tropical fish store! Eddie was finally ready for a pet to love and nurture. Oscar the fish, who now lives in a happy little fish bowl with bamboo plants, is my newest neighbor and Eddie’s newest family member. Adorable. Next, we went to Versailles, which is a terrific little Cuban restaurant in Miami. Read the rest of this entry »

The Lunch that Almost Didn’t Happen

Posted by French Fry Fairy On August - 12 - 20092 COMMENTS

tiny3Yesterday I was feeling overwhelmed with work and I wanted nothing more than to cuddle up on my couch with no phone and no interruptions so I could focus. My friend Emily called and basically bullied me into meeting her in Coconut Grove at Le Bouchon De Grove for lunch. After four text messages and two phone calls, I reluctantly gave in. Now don’t get me wrong, I adore Emily and love spending time with her, and for that reason it didn’t take long for me to change my opinion about lunch. About 10 minutes into our conversation and one glass of champagne later, I was thanking Emily for dragging me away for a much needed break. She was a good cheerer upper, and I didn’t even realize I needed any cheering! We ended up laughing, eating French fries, eating salad, drinking espresso and then laughing some more. South Beach: Random Sunday at Van Dyke Cafe with French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On August - 11 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

smallRandom Sundays are the best. I love having absolutely no plans and then the stars align so I can have a fantastically perfect random day.  Sunday morning consisted of a leisurely bike ride, then I watched about six episodes of South Park, then another bike ride and the evening ended with a little yoga and drum circle. Random? Yes. Could I have planned it any better? Not a chance! Read the rest of this entry »

SMALL4Eddie the Neighbor and I decided to partake in a French fry adventure. It had been several weeks since our last excursion, and to be honest, I really missed our outings. Eddie picked me up on his bike and I rode on the handlebars the entire way. I laughed so hard that my stomach hurt and I felt like I was 12 years old. It was just like riding in the front car on a rollercoaster and I don’t think that I ever want travel another way again.    Read the rest of this entry »

smflan 5I had an absolutely beautiful afternoon with a woman whom I believe is quite possibly the smflann 1sweetest person on the entire planet. That might seem like a pretty bold statement, but the Universe did not create too many souls like my dear friend, Dannielle. Read the rest of this entry »

sm76Sunday brunch is such a great thing. You can get breakfast or lunch, so everybody involved is happy. I love that I can order eggs, pancakes AND a side of French fries.
