Burger and Beer Joint: I Love Their French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On September - 28 - 20091 COMMENT

burgerandbeer6Burger and Beer Joint again? Don’t mind if I do. This new little restaurant in South Beach is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to hang out. That seems a little odd because it is a burger joint and I don’t eat meat. However, the French fry options are probably the best I have found. This was my third time at this little gem of a restaurant, and I discovered a new type of fries that I didn’t even know that they had.

News Café And French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On September - 28 - 20092 COMMENTS

newscafe3Nothing beats random lunches with girlfriends during the work week. I love taking a break from computers, phones and thinking too much. The time away in the middle of the day is like a little treasure when I can sit down with my friends and gossip about the real things that matter like boys, shopping and weekend escapades.

Tania, who is a new South Beach community member from London, and I went to News Café on Ocean Drive in South Beach. Roughly ninety percent of the restaurant patrons on Ocean Drive are on vacation, so I consider myself lucky to be able to take time to enjoy some of that vacation energy – even if it is only for an a moment in time. We were able to witness examples of perfect specimens of men walk by without shirts, look at the ocean while we were eating and take part in some of the best people watching in the entire world… and this is just our average day. wayward sailorMy French fry adventures started out as a silly way for my friends and family to keep up with me. I have lived in nine states and also had a short stint in Hong Kong, so I have made friends from around the world and this has been a great way for everyone to see what I am doing. Little did I know that this blog would open the doors to a whole new set of friends and fun!

I joined the Burger Beast, who is obviously an expert on burgers, for a little rendezvous with other local bloggers. The world-renowned pizza expert from the Worst Pizza also joined the excursion. To top it all off, the hops and barley expert from the South Florida Beer Blog came along for an evening of food, drinks and laughs. All of my dreams! Read the rest of this entry »

French Fries, Quarterdeck and Lots of Fights

Posted by French Fry Fairy On September - 22 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

IMG00160It was fight night. What exactly does that mean? I have no idea, but I knew there was going to be a fantastic boy to girl ratio at the event. I gathered up Emily and Hillary and met up with my friends who I have coffee with every morning to watch the fight. I called my sister and when she asked what I was doing, I replied that I was going to watch the fight. I was trying to sound confident – like I knew what I was talking about. My sister knows me too well and she quickly called my bluff. As it turns out, there was more than one fight and I didn’t know what I was talking about. I had no idea who was fighting and no idea what the night would entail. Read the rest of this entry »

Miami: French Fries at Waxy O’Connors

Posted by French Fry Fairy On September - 22 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

IMG00155Waxy O’Connors, which is one of my favorite bars in South Beach, opened a new restaurant on the on the river in Miami. Hillary and I decided to go and check it out. We loved the location and the weather was perfect. After the normal girl conversation, we decided to order some French fries because that is what I do.

So, the French fries arrived. They were hand-cut and very, very hot! Personally, I think they could have been a little crispier. I am always a little disappointed when I don’t get to experience that little crunch that always tends to make the fries taste IMG00156a little better. Other than that, they were salted and satiated my potato craving! They even were garnished with something green, which I know made them a million times more healthy. Read the rest of this entry »

BNB-OutsideI used to love boys with motorcycles in college and I especially loved going really fast and doing wheelies. Most of the boys grew up and got wives, jobs and kids. I have learned that growing up tends to make life a little less exciting and one day there were no more boys with bikes. Oh well. Unfortunately, we can’t stay in college forever.

Fast forward nine years… I made some friends at Starbucks, where I love to spend my mornings. Not only did I make friends, but I made friends with boys who have motorcycles. Two thumbs up. So when the opportunity presented itself to relive my glory years at Bike Night, I couldn’t pass it up. The night started out at Starbucks where I met the group who included two badass girls who race motorcycles. Next we headed to some place in Kendall, then to Burger and Beer Joint in South Beach for Bike Night. Motorcycles, beer, boys and French fries – what more could a girl want? Not much! John Martin’s Irish Pub, French Fries and the BURGIES!

Posted by French Fry Fairy On September - 16 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Burgies+Awards+posterI had been waiting for weeks, but the Burgies finally arrived. The Burger Beast gathered up all of his friends, family, fans and local bloggers to give out awards for the best food in town. All the shenanigans took place at John Martin’s Irish Pub in Coral Gables. Eddie the neighbor wanted to come along after my invitation, because it’s pretty hard to say no to burgers, French fries and a big group of weirdoes who rate food for fun.

Eddie and I took the opportunity to try all the French fries. They had skinny fries, potato IMG00142wedges and homemade potato chips. We didn’t try the cheese fries, because that was just too much food, but they looked amazing so I want to go back! This was my idea of paradise. We even had our own private balcony. Well kind of, but we felt pretty special sitting up high enjoying the award show. Eddie decided that in honor of the Burgies, he would order a burger. When the food arrived, we quickly stuffed our faces while waiting in anticipation for the awards to start. Read the rest of this entry »

My friend Al and I were pretty hungry, so Al chose Latin Café 2000 in Miami. Oh, did I mention he managed yet again to get me to leave South Beach? How does that happen? Read the rest of this entry »

French Fries, Karaoke and a Couple Irish Bars

Posted by French Fry Fairy On September - 11 - 20093 COMMENTS

_Device Memory_home_user_pictures_IMG00119Once upon a time I lived in Orlando and I had some crazy neighbors, some very odd neighbors and a few neighbors that I really liked. Two of the neighbors that fit in the category that I really liked drove down to Miami to get passports for a last minute trip.

Alicia and Jordan arrived and I met them at their hotel. I really did not have a _Device Memory_home_user_pictures_IMG00120plan so we headed down Ocean Drive in South Beach because that seemed like the touristy thing to do. We ended up at Finnegan’s Way. I wanted to sit at a high-top in the bar area, but the hostess said that we would not be served food there. We had to sit somewhere else. She then proceeded to sit us at a high-top two tables down from where we wanted to sit.  What? Are you following this? If not, it’s ok because it is a bit ridiculous. We just gave up and sat where she wanted to seat us. Whatever… Read the rest of this entry »

Jimbos Jamaican PaulMy friend Carlos is on a mission to visit the 10 oldest bars in Miami. I like bars and I like missions, so naturally I was inclined to tag along. Our first stop was at Jimbo’s in Virginia Key. I heard that I would meet some interesting people there, but this bar was a lot different than what I was expecting. I heard that it was a little “country”, but I wasn’t prepared for chickens, spray painted trailers and a character named Jamaican Paul, who developed a little crush on me. He told us a little bit about the history of Jimbo’s and even had me pose for a photo with him. 7023_127752014635_647684635_2300974_702239_nHe wants to be famous, and I hope that someday he is able to see his name in lights. I am doing my part in helping him reach his dream by posting his picture so that the two people who are reading this might recognize Jamaican Paul if they see him on the street. I loved Jimbo’s and the entire experience. Although they do not serve French fries, I have heard that they serve some of the best smoked fish.
