The rain finally stopped, and I drove up to Fort Lauderdale to see my friend who is visiting from the northeast. I lived in Fort Lauderdale once upon a time for about two months and I did absolutely nothing other than lay out by the pool and go to the gym. During this time, I met Ken, who also did nothing but lay out at the pool and go to the gym. I adore him.

After we enjoyed beer and fries at the German restaurant, Steven and I decided to spend the day doing random stuff. We ended up at the Hard Rock Casino. I lost a whopping $20, but Steven won a little bit of money. Go Steven!

Today I woke up early and went for a run, watched the sunrise over the ocean, had some coffee with the neighbors, went to Whole Foods and then met my friends for French fries and beer. This was all before noon. Who knew that staying in on a Friday night could lead to such a productive Saturday morning? Not I, said the fly.

I belong to a vegetable co-op and each week I get a box full of local fruits and vegetables. Not only do I save a little bit of money, because Whole Foods can be a little expensive, but I also get to try fruits and vegetables that I would normally never buy. This week, my box came with a whole pineapple. I love pineapple, so I was pretty excited. Last night I pulled the pineapple out of the fridge only to discover that I did not have the slightest idea of how to cut up a pineapple. I ended up making a mess, and I probably only managed to salvage about 25 percent of the edible fruit. However, it was good!

Recently I wanted to start a campaign against soggy sweet potato fries. I was under the impression that everyone believes that crispy sweet potato fries are the way to go. I believe that soggy French fries are just about as enjoyable as a hot poker in the eye, but that is just a personal opinion.
However, some of my dear girlfriends informed me that they ACTUALLY enjoy soggy sweet potato fries. That made me question whether there are other people out there who enjoy mushy and moist sweet potatoes. Gross… but whatever. Everyone is entitled to an opinion – even if it is wrong. As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, Monty’s is one of my favorite places for happy hour in South Beach, so I walked over there to meet a group of writers from Miami Beach 411. Carlos, Maria and Jess all joined up to meet with a couple visiting from Wisconsin to discuss the ins and outs of Miami Beach. I would have liked to insert a group shot here, but I tried to take a picture and I guess I didn’t press the right button on Carlos’s camera.
