Joe’s Take-away Sweet Potato Fries – A Little Slice of Heaven

Posted by French Fry Fairy On October - 22 - 20094 COMMENTS

joes5When I first moved to South Beach, I heard about Joe’s Stone Crab and their amazing French fries. Unfortunately, when I moved here the restaurant was closed for the season. This was a real bummer because it was only a block away from my house. However, many French fries later I forgot about Joe’s until the other week when it finally opened.

So, months and months later I finally arrived at the famous restaurant with my friend Josh. We went to Joe’s Take-away, which is located right next to the actual restaurant, because we weren’t dressed very fancy. We ordered sweet potato fries, some regular Read the rest of this entry »

The Standard and a Day Filled with Yoga, Mimosas and French Fries!

Posted by French Fry Fairy On October - 20 - 20093 COMMENTS

standardCarla and I woke up for the early yoga class at the Standard in South Beach, so we were ready for downward dogs, shoulder stands and warrior poses as we watched the sunrise over the bay.  At the end of the class, we were surprised with foot massages. Sometimes I really believe that I am living in a dream world.

The day just kept getting better. We put on our swimsuits and swam around Read the rest of this entry »

Yolo, French Fries and Truffled Yolo Chips

Posted by French Fry Fairy On October - 20 - 20091 COMMENT

I know that this might come as a shock, but my day job is not a French fry blogger. I know that you must think millions of dollars can be made from such a fantastic idea, but alas, I also have a day job. You ready for the ironic part of my day job? I am a freelance writer who focuses on health, nutrition and the environment. What am I doing writing about yolo1French fries? Well, I eat so many vegetables and other things that are good for me, that I have to satisfy the part of me that just wants to eat junk food. I don’t like sweets, so chocolate wouldn’t work. I don’t eat meat, so that cuts out a whole food group of treats that are bad for me. I found a love for fried potatoes and have fixated on that craving for years.

I was absolutely delighted when my boss, Jeff, from one of the companies that I work for suggested that we talk about business over some French fries. Mix work and French fries? Jeff’s likeability went up about 10 notches. We chose Yolo, which is a fantastic restaurant off of Read the rest of this entry »

Flanigan’s French Fries – Cold and Curly

Posted by French Fry Fairy On October - 15 - 20092 COMMENTS

flannigans2My friend Al is probably one of the most genuinely nice people I have met since I moved to Miami. He happens to be one of my favorite people in this city, not only because he shares my affinity for the LOL Smiley Face song, but because we are always having adventures.  He has the amazing ability to make me leave South Beach, which I really hate doing. It’s not that I don’t like traveling, but last year I traveled too much and I am enjoying the fact that I have everything I need within a few miles of my house.

Sometimes I ramble, so let’s get to the fry adventure. A few months back, I went with Read the rest of this entry »

Girlie Lunch, the Mondrian and Mojito Fries!

Posted by French Fry Fairy On October - 8 - 20095 COMMENTS

mondrianTania and I needed a girlie lunch. No boys allowed. We headed to Asia de Cuba at the Mondrian because I heard they had mojito fries.  When I think of mojitos, I think of the sugary mint drink with a little lime that always reminds me of being on vacation with hot cabana boys catering to my every need. Wait, what are we talking about? Fries? Maybe I should start a blog on hot cabana boys.

I wasn’t sure if I would like mint-flavored fries, but it sounded unique. I was truly relieved when I learned the fries had absolutely no trace of mint. Crisis averted. The fries were just average skinny fries, but the brilliant chefs created a masterpiece when they added lime juice, cilantro and garlic. Amazing. The mojito they were actually referring to is the Latin sauce that I find to be one of my favorite things Read the rest of this entry »

I’m On A Boat…Shuckers and Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On October - 6 - 20092 COMMENTS

shookersOne of the great things about living in Miami is I can do vacation-like activities on a daily basis. Coming from the Midwest, I still marvel in the fact that I can wake up and watch the sunrise over the ocean every day. Do I wake up every morning in the 6 o’clock hour to watch the sunrise? Hell no. The point is I can if I want to!

Another good thing about living in Miami is getting a call late in the afternoon to go boating. One minute, I was sitting on a beach and the next minute I Read the rest of this entry »

Smith and Wollensky’s Wine Week Paired with Some French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On October - 3 - 20091 COMMENT

smithwollensky2Wine week at Smith and Wollensky is an affair that patrons of the restaurant look forward to for a great way to try some of the best selections of wine. I can’t even pretend to know the first thing about wine, so I usually just sit there with a dopey smile on my face and nod every once in a while when my friends discuss the finer things in life. Whatever! Chardonnay? Yes please. Merlot? Well, ok. All I know is that servers kept coming around with wine and champagne and I don’t think my glass was ever empty.

Once upon a time Eddie the neighbor and I went out to Smith and Wollensky to try their sweet potato fries. We Read the rest of this entry »
