Tootsies and a Plate of French Fries

tootsiesIt was just an ordinary day in Miami Beach and Hillary and I were deciding what to do for the evening. The best times are when you don’t plan anything, because they seem to be the craziest nights. I got a call from my longtime friend, Mike, and he said he happened to be in town with a bachelor party. I was so excited because I hadn’t seen Mike in well over a year. As with most things in my life, luck was on my side because his friends were staying at the Marriott a couple blocks from my house. Hooray! Fifteen out-of-town boys in town for a bachelor party made our success rate of having a good Friday evening right around 99 percent.

Hillary and I are a lot alike. We don’t plan and we really just like to go with the flow. We met them for a quick drink at China Grille then headed back to the Marriott to hop on the bus that was taking us all to Tootsies Cabaret. Yes, we were headed to a strip club. I am almost embarrassed to write this because I know that my parents read this blog to keep informed on how their angelic daughter spends her time. But, I’ll be honest, I’ve done a whole lot worse. Yucca Fries and Doral Latin Cafe

latin4It was just an average Friday and my friend Josh asked if I wanted to come and meet him and his friend Devin for lunch. The only problem is that I had to go to Doral. I know that you are probably asking yourself the same question I asked myself – where the hell is Doral? Well, as I learned you head towards the airport, get off on Palmetto something or other and end up in Doral. Being the amazing friend that I am, I obliged, hopped in my car and headedlatin over.

There was some debate about where to go for lunch, so we had to choose between a little Latin place or an all you can eat sushi place. Anytime there is an all you can sushi place for $10, it is probably best to go with the other option. Raw fish is a little sketchy, but all you can eat raw fish is downright scary. So, the debate didn’t last long and we were on our way to the little Latin place – Doral Latin Café.

We ordered the yucca fries. I believe that I may have been Read the rest of this entry »

quickies8I am really excited for Nov. 21, which marks a day that will go down in history. Actually, all days go down in history, but this one is special. My friend, the Burger Beast, will attempt to eat a four-pound hamburger at Quickie’s Burgers and Wings. When the Burger Beast first told me about his endeavor, I didn’t understand the magnitude of the challenge he was about to take on! This news is so huge that the Miami Herald even featured the story this week. I went with the Burger Beast and a couple of his friends to Quickie’s to check out the size of the burger that he is going to attempt to put in his belly. When the burger arrived, my jaw hit the floor. I believe that an entire cow was killed just for this moment of gluttony. A vegetarian in a carnivore’s paradise… I just decided to order fries. Saint Paul, MN: Shamrocks and GOOD DIPPINS! (FFF Guest Blog)

melissa2Ahhhh…. pre-winter in Minnesota where the sky turns dark at 5:00 PM, you trade in your flip-flops for boots and start to think about bulking up for the actual winter months. Okay, so ‘bulking’ up might sound bad to those in the warmer regions but I am telling you people, it gets seriously cold here and a little extra plump helps to keep you insulated against the bitter wind chills.

One of the best things about living in Minnesota is the strong Irish influence. With that comes some great Guinness, awesome St. Patty’s Day Parties, and lots of local Irish Pubs.  Sarah and I decided to meet for a little Happy Hour action at a fun local Irish hot spot, Shamrock’s in Saint Paul. Neither of us knowing what life changing food experience awaited us (alright, so life changing might be a bit high drama but I am a Drama Queen so just deal).

It was Hockey Night in St. Paul so the place quickly grew crowded. We were fortunate though as we had a table which afforded us a nice spot to sit and sip beers, and the best people watching we had encountered in a long time. It is a general rule that any sporting event, fair, and festival in Minnesota bring out a Read the rest of this entry »

Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink, French Fries and Potato Chips

michaels 3It was lunchtime and my tummy was grumbling. Luckily, I can always find friends who want to eat with me. Carla, Cathy and Stacey were heading over to Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink in Miami. Now, just to make this clear, this food is genuine so don’t mistake it for fake food.

The girls arrived and then we gave Eddie the neighbor a call because lunch with the crew isn’t the same without our favorite neighbor. We sat down and ordered the thick cut potato chips with pan fried onion dip and the homemade fries. Read the rest of this entry »

South Beach: Clarke’s and French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On November - 2 - 20091 COMMENT

clarkes4Carla, Stacey, Peter and I went to Clarke’s in South Beach to eat another plate of food that we didn’t really need. How is it that I don’t feel hungry, but I always find room for fried potatoes? I don’t know how so many plates of potatoes were ordered, but we ended up with homemade potato chips and French fries with truffle oil and parmesan. Man, am I glad someone suggested that we eat for a second time that evening. I know 60 percent of people in the United States are overweight, but how do we really expect people to stay in shape when restaurants offer things like French fries with truffle oil and parmesan. Stay skinny? A very unreal expectation if you ask me. Read the rest of this entry »
