flips3My parents are great supporters of my French fry reviews, so I really wanted them to be a flips5part of a French fry excursion. My mother and I had already eaten at Billy Bob’s Texas so I wanted to go to another restaurant that is unique to the Fort Worth area. My father did a little research and found out through his friend where to find the best French fries in the area. However, Flips Patio Grill in Grapevine, Texas was close so my dad took us there instead.

As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by two stuffed bears. Not stuffed bears that comfort children as they sleep, but big ferocious stuffed bears. I have never understood why people stuff dead animals. I find the practice a little morbid. I also find it funny that whenever anybody stuffs an animal that is typically dangerous in the wild, they always pose the animal in a fighting position when they are stuffed. In reality, the bear was probably sleeping or drinking water and was no threat whatsoever to the hunter, which makes taxidermy all that more disheartening.flips4

billybobs6For the first time in months, I ventured out of South Florida to visit my parents in Fort Worth, Texas. There were two things I wanted to experience while visiting the Lone Star State – I wanted to spend some quality time with my parents and I wanted to ride a mechanical bull. The quality time with my parents was pretty much a given, so my mechanical bull mission was officially underway.

My mom decided to take me to Billy Bob’s Texas, which boasts the World’s Largest Honky Tonk. What exactly is a honky tonk? Hmphhh… who cares. I know at some point I heard a song about a honky tonk badonkadonk, so I knew that Bill Bob’s wouldn’t disappoint. I could only Read the rest of this entry »

Being one of the few people in Miami with red hair and freckles, I often get mistaken for a tourist. Tour groups are nia2always trying to give me flyers and I can’t tell you how many times I have been offered a ride to the airport. What can I do to look more like a local? The only answer I have come up with is to get a small dog.  All local women seem to have dogs. I have cats (yep that’s plural), which is also a very non-Miami thing to have.

I guess it has become an ongoing joke. Every time I am offered a ride to the airport or stopped because someone wants me on their tour, Josh lets out a little chuckle. The day someone stops me to ask for directions is the day I will finally feel like I belong here.

Playwright3This day was no different. Josh and I went to grab a couple beers on a particularly cold night in Miami Beach. On the way there, I was offered a ride to the airport. After I politely said no thank you, I suggested we go to the Playwright. The Playwright is an Irish pub in South Beach, and if a girl with red hair and freckles can’t fit in at an Irish bar, then there really is no hope for me. Read the rest of this entry »

jerry's deliI think that everyone always sets their expectations too high for New Year’s Eve. For some reason we think that New Year’s Eve should be the best night of the year filled with crazy shenanigans and ballyhoos. Often these high expectations lead to a disappointing evening. No matter how much you plan, the evening just never turns out perfect. I took a different approach this year. I decided to go out with very low expectations. I mean, I didn’t even buy a new outfit. I didn’t expect a wild and crazy night and I figured as long as I was with friends at midnight I would consider the night a success. As it turns out, I had a perfect New Year’s Eve filled with unexpected twists and turns.

The evening started with a BBQ at my house. Afterwards, I met up with my friend Tania and headed over to our friend jerry's deli 2Jeff’s house for a party. Next, we met up with some other friends and headed out to another party. We watched the fireworks over Miami and left sometime around 12:30 a.m. Next, we arrived at the Betsy Ross Hotel and went to the B Bar and continued to drink champagne. Next, we went to the W Hotel and danced for what seemed like 12 hours.  Who knows how many Read the rest of this entry »
