Where the French Fries are Crispy and Dreams Come True!

Archive for June, 2010

Minnesota continued to be a lot of fun… I got to see friends and family that I have not seen in ages. My sister and I met up with my great aunt Janice and cousin Avarie. We met at the Mall of America at Ruby Tuesday. We talked, laughed and gossiped about the family. Sometime I believe my family’s lives would make a good soap opera, so the story lines are more interesting than reading the book.

Our server came and we ordered our meals. I wanted French fries and a side of veggies, but the server talked me into getting a meal Read the rest of this entry »

I was having the time of my life in Minnesota with my girlfriends and my sister. I haven’t seen many of them in over a year, so it was a well overdue reunion. We met at Axel’s Bonfire in Woodbury for some cocktails and French fries. More cocktails than French fries, but whatever…

We were laughing, giggling and enjoying a Bloody Mary or two… or Read the rest of this entry »

Gilbert, Minnesota: Wandering Pines and French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On June - 19 - 20101 COMMENT

We drove up to Gilbert, Minnesota for the day. Gilbert is a small town in northern Minnesota about 100 miles south of Canada. The town has a population of about 1,800. You might wonder what you would do in a town of 1,800 people in northern Minnesota. Well, the answer is you drink. That’s about it. There are about 15 bars to wet your whistle in Gilbert, which makes perfect sense in a town so small.

My mother, my aunt, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I all went to a little restaurant called the Wandering Pines. It was a cute little place built in a log cabin that was just adorable.
The restaurant was located right next to Knotty Pine Liquor Store. How perfect! In case you are not in the mood to drink at one of the million bars, you can pick up some alcohol to drink at home. This was my kind of town. I think there might be more alcohol in the town Read the rest of this entry »

Minneapolis: Mall of America, Crave and French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On June - 17 - 20105 COMMENTS

I was so excited to go to Minnesota. It had been a year and a half since I had been in Minnesota to see my family and friends. My sister picked me up from the airport and we headed straight to the Mall of America to meet up with mom and brother. Unfortunately, my father was still in Texas so we didn’t see him … sniff sniff.

So, I begged my brother, sister and mother to ride the roller coasters with me that are in the center of the mall. After I was turned down by all three of them, I pouted, but that didn’t do any good. I settled for a nice view of the roller coasters while we were at dinner at Crave. Read the rest of this entry »

Boca Raton: El Bayu and Yucca Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On June - 10 - 20101 COMMENT

Jason and I were hanging out with our friend Marc in Boca Raton, when we decided we needed food. We couldn’t agree on a type of food to eat, but living in South Florida, I have grown an affinity towards Cuban food. I love it. I especially love me some mojo sauce… mmm mmm good.

Jason and I found the closest Cuban place to Marc’s
house and went to El Bayu. I ordered plantain chips, yucca fries and some beans and rice. Yucca fries are kind of hit and miss Read the rest of this entry »

McDonald’s French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On June - 10 - 20102 COMMENTS

There are a lot of people in the world who are in love with McDonald’s French fries. I have put off reviewing French fries at this restaurant until I could be with my bestie, Tracy. We have had some great McDonald’s French fries experiences and I couldn’t do this review justice without her input.

There was one night, not too long ago, when I lived in Orlando where Read the rest of this entry »

Fort Lauderdale: Ale House and Sweet Potato Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On June - 8 - 20102 COMMENTS

Brian continued his adventure to Miami with a little trip the Ale House. Our server at the Ale House was bragging about their new sweet potato fries and how good they were. I thought I would give them at try to see whether or not I thought they were any good. When they arrived, they looked delicious, but a little too perfectly cut. That means that they probably came from a frozen bag…. I ate one and knew I was right. They were ok, but they were just average fries and there was nothing really special about them. They were a Read the rest of this entry »

Fort Lauderdale: Lulu’s Bait Shack and French Fries

Brian was visiting from Orlando, so we headed over to Lulu’s Bait Shack in Fort Lauderdale. I ordered mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries and French fries. Well, I actually just ordered mashed potatoes and broccoli, but my friends were nice enough to let me try the other potatoes that they ordered. Thanks guys…

I wish that I could write something fantastic about my experience at Lulu’s Bait Shack, but that is not Read the rest of this entry »

Boy-oh-boy was I excited when Brian came to visit. Brian was my very first friend I made in Orlando when I moved there right after graduate school and I love him. We have been friends for many many years and I don’t ever see that changing.

Once upon a time I had a job where I had to show up to an office, but luckily Brian was there to keep me company. One day we drove to Super Target to get some junk food for lunch. We each bought 1.5 pounds of candy. We ate jelly bellies, chocolate covered espresso beans and just about anything else we could fit into the bag that came from the bulk candy bins. We each ate 1.5 pounds of candy that afternoon. That’s right… we ate the entire bag. We were so happy for about 45 minutes and couldn’t stop laughing and giggling. About 45 minutes later, we were doing everything we could to Read the rest of this entry »

South Beach: Clarke’s and French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On June - 5 - 20102 COMMENTS

I think I have written enough reviews about Clarke’s from this blog and the Miami New Times to earn my own seat at this restaurant. I don’t care though… the food is amazing. This particular evening, I was joined by my BFF Jenni from Minnesota. We have been friends since we were 12 years old. I won’t tell you how many years that has been, but let’s just say it has been a very long time!

I wanted to take Jenni to Clarke’s to meet some of my Miami friends. Jen and Tania joined us a girls’ night out. We ordered our dinners. Like always, I ordered a side of French fries to accompany Read the rest of this entry »
