New York: Highpoint Bistro and French Fries in Shopping Carts

Posted by French Fry Fairy On July - 29 - 20101 COMMENT

I discovered a new spot in New York – Highpoint Bistro. I was on twitter the other day and someone posted a picture of their French fries in a shopping cart. The minute I saw them, I knew I had to have them! As luck would have it, the restaurant that served these fries was in New York City and I happened to be in New York! Hooray.

I asked Tania to add this to our schedule because she is the planner and the one who keeps us on task. Read the rest of this entry »

According to an article in the Washington Post, French fries in Germany will be about 22 percent shorter this year. This news comes as quite a shock to me! What could be the cause of this catastrophe? The farmers of Europe are blaming the heat wave. This blunder by Mother Nature is very disturbing and I cannot believe that there is not more of a desperate outcry from our neighbors across the sea.

If anyone wants to rally together and start a fund to save the French fries let me know. I feel very sad knowing that our friends in Germany will have a French fry shortage. I only wish that I could conjure up a rainbow with my super powers to magically transport extra-long potatoes to Deutschland. Read the rest of this entry »

Serendipity 3 in New York City is like a restaurant you would find in a fairytale. When you first walk into the restaurant, there are a ton of trinkets and treasures for sale. You can buy cupcakes on key chains, high heel earrings and lots of things with glitter. My girly censors were on overload. I loved it.

When we were seated, I felt like we were in an ice cream parlor from the 1950s. I learned that the restaurant has been around since 1954, which explains the 1950s feeling. There were chandeliers with pearls and antique furniture that was painted with whimsical colors.

I want to find the most delicious French Fries in the world, so I have recruited the help of other people to give me their opinions on the fried tubers. I caught up with Terrence Wilkins, who is a former NFL player for the Indianapolis Colts to tell me all about his experiences with French Fries.

FFF: What is your favorite type of French Fries (e.g. skinny fries, sweet potato fries, duck fat fries, etc)?

TW: Skinny fries have always been my favorite.

FFF: Where is your favorite place to enjoy French fries?

TW: I really just enjoy making and eating French fries in the comfort of my own home.

I once again made the journey to New York City with Tania so we could try some more restaurants with French fries. Although Tania lives in New York part of the year, I would definitely still consider her a tourist. We don’t know that ins and outs of the city, so although we might try to mix with the locals we stick out like sore thumbs.

We decided to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art because neither of us had been in years. We tried to get a taxi, but after that was unsuccessful, we hopped on a bus.  Neither Tania nor I are accustomed to busses, but is seemed easy enough. When the time came for us to get off of the bus, confusion ensued… The back doors wouldn’t open. Finally someone just told us to push the doors. It worked! The bad news is our secret was out – everybody knew we were tourists.

After the Met, we went to Sarabeth’s on Amsterdam Avenue for Read the rest of this entry »

Fort Lauderdale: Georgie’s Alibi and French Fries

Posted by French Fry Fairy On July - 27 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

My friend Derrick came to visit and I was ready for days of fun of laughs! When Derrick arrived, I rushed him to the guest room to unpack then I rushed him out the door because I was starving. Jason joined us on a French fry adventure to Georgie’s Alibi in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

We decided to go to Georgeie’s Alibi, which is technically located in Wilton Manors, but let’s just say Fort Lauderdale. I ordered a salad (to cancel out the French fries) and eagerly awaited the arrival of my food. All I could think about was biting down into the crispy fried goodness I have grown to love. Finally, the French fries arrived. I expected just normal French fries that came from a freezer, but I was surprised with some seasoned fries.

The French fries were hot and crispy, so that was good. The fact Read the rest of this entry »

Last year I made it my personal mission to search the world in search of the best French fries. Although I think my opinion is a very credible source for French fry lovers, I thought I would open up the opportunity to other people to share their ideas on French fries.

My first interview choice should be obvious – The Burger Beast. His opinions on burgers and other food are well-respected throughout South Florida and maybe even the world. So…. Enough of my blabbering and let’s get to it!

FFF: What is your favorite type of French Fries (e.g. skinny fries, sweet potato fries, duck fat fries, etc)?

Burger Beast: Fresh Cut, it wasn’t part of the choices but I figured I’d throw that out there.

Davie, Florida: Ye Olde Falcon Pub and French Fries… and beer

Jason and I were in the mood for some daytime drinking. We asked our friend Kelly to come and join in on the fun. Although Kelly was up for the excursion, she wasn’t so keen on the drinking because she had a little too much to drink the night before. We convinced Kelly to drink again because as the old expression goes, she just needed a little hair off the dog that bit her.

Before I get to the part about French fries, let’s just consider the phrase, “a little hair off the dog that bit you.” That makes no sense…
In fact, I was so confused that I took some extra time to find out what this actually means. To find my answer, I turned to the Internet. We all know that if it is on the Internet it must be true! The phrase refers to a belief that if a dog bites you, all you have to do is rub the hair from the dog on the bite to heal the wound. Now that I understand the origin of the phrase, I am even less apt to use it. I understand the analogy of the bite and the hangover. I just don’t understand who would have ever believed this dog hair expression. Now that you learned something new… onto the fries. Read the rest of this entry »

I went to a photo shoot with O.J. McDuffie and Ricky Williams for the Signature Grand Ghoul Halloween Event. The event is put on every year to raise money for organizations dedicated to helping children. This year, O.J. McDuffie and Ricky Williams are hosting the event to benefit their charities – The O.J.
