City Hall Restaurant in Miami and Tri-Color French Fries

City Hall Tri-Color French Fries

City Hall is a Brasserie-style restaurant in Miami that has a very eclectic menu to please all. My friends and I headed there on Saturday afternoon for lunch and laughs. We were lucky enough to dine at the restaurant on the day it was hosting its very first wedding reception. The atmosphere was fun, celebratory and I think I might have been smiling the entire time.

When it came time to order food, I ordered a side salad and a side of tri-color French fries. That’s right, the French fries were just as colorful as the restaurant’s atmosphere. The fries arrived in a basket, which was an amazing surprise. Not only were there three colors of potatoes, but the fries, which were more like fried potato nuggets, came in an ultra-fun serving container. It was almost as if they were lifted right from the fryer and placed on my plate. The fries did not disappoint. They were flavorful, crunchy, hot and salted perfectly.

South Beach: Barton G, Amazing French Fries and a Lot of Fun

Tania and I at Barton G

I don’t think I could imagine the awesomeness of Barton G, even in my wildest dreams. The circus-like atmosphere kept me guessing as to what would come next. All the appetizers, main courses and desserts were served in a magical way that made me feel like I was living in a dream. Pictures do not do the place justice. It’s definitely a playground for foodies.

We ordered the popcorn shrimp, which actually comes in a popcorn container. The lobster pop-tarts

arrived in a toaster. The bucket-of-bones arrived in a mini shopping cart. The French fries were the true gem at Barton G. Well maybe not, but Read the rest of this entry »

French Fries at the Rickenbacker Fish Company in Miami, Florida

My friends and I dined at the Rickenbacker Fish Company in Key Biscayne, Florida. The laid back atmosphere and amazing views make this restaurant a must-see destination for anyone visiting or living in Miami. You can arrive by boat or car to have some of the freshest seafood in South Florida. You can sit and enjoy food and drinks, or you can purchase some fresh fish or stone crabs to take home.

We decided to stay for a meal. We had fish, salad, sandwiches, soup and French fries. The food is made with organic produce that is grown locally. You can really taste the difference.  The tomatoes actually had a sweet flavor and seemed to burst with an explosion of flavor. Although everything was amazing, I liked the French fries best. I would have to say that the French fries were some of the best I have ever had. They were fresh-cut, crispy and salty.

Bradshaw, thank you so much for a lovely afternoon! I will be coming back very soon.

Clubhouse One at the Miami International Airport

I hear about the days where people used to dress up to fly and airlines provided impeccable customer service. Unfortunately, I am too young to remember those days. Once upon a time when I had a real job, I was flying across the country, or world, almost weekly. People are crabby, airlines nickel and dime you and overbooked flights are often uncomfortable. I remember my first couple of bad experiences with flights and trying to deal with customer service teams trying to help you from other countries. One time my flight got cancelled, so I called customer service while waiting in the super long line to save some time. The guy on the phone did not understand the geography of the United States. I was in Washington, D.C. trying to get to Florida. He wanted to put me on a flight to California, which took me through Denver. A mere 36 hours later I would have arrived in Florida. Bless his heart. Needless to say, I just waited in line for two hours with the rest of the irritated passengers. After a couple experiences like that, I learned not to get upset. You just need to roll with it because there is nothing you can do. You just need to always have a couple good books and a snack with you at all times. Just smile and be kind because it gets you so much further than yelling and screaming.

For that reason, I never dress up on flights. Yoga pants and a sweatshirt are always my traveling attire. This is why you will notice there are no pictures in this blog post. I looked especially unfortunate this day. Wow, this post is sounding negative. Let me add that I was having the time of my life this particular day. When you are with a good group of friends, life can’t get much better.

So, you are probably wondering about the French fries. I think it is pretty rare to find good food at an airport. I usually just grab some nuts and my favorite coffee beverage and Starbucks instead of experimenting with airport food. South Beach: Onion Rings at Smith and Wollensky

Posted by French Fry Fairy On January - 13 - 2011ADD COMMENTS

Carla and I wanted to have a pool day, but it was a little bit too chilly. I guess it is January. We decided to walk over to Smith and Wollensky to grab a snack and maybe a mimosa. On the way there, we saw a manatee at Miami Beach Marina. I have seen manatees in the wild, but this was the closest I have ever seen a manatee without being at a zoo. We followed a boat captain to his boat and fed the manatee fresh water from a hose. It was so cute! I fell in love…

After our wildlife adventure, we continued our journey to Smith and Wollensky. We sat at the bar and talked about French fries with one of our favorite bartenders, Victor. He also happens to be a bartender at Burger & Beer Joint, so I was pretty excited to talk fried potatoes with him. He really knew what he was talking about.

Smith and Wollensky stopped serving sweet potato fries, so that wasn’t even an option. Read the rest of this entry »

My Friends and a Night Out in South Beach

I was out with my friends for an evening of fun and food. We started out by filling our bellies with lots of fried carbs from Burger & Beer Joint. That place is still one of my favorite places for comfort food in South Beach. They just have so many delicious fried options!

We started out with fried pickles. If you have never had fried pickles, I suggest you get your butt up off the couch and find a place that serves these fried delicacies. If you live in South Beach, or near South Beach, you really need to go to Burger & Beer Joint. The pickles are so good because they have a sour taste that is so deliciously tangy and they Read the rest of this entry »

Roasted Potatoes at Joey’s Italian Cafe in Wynwood

Joey's in Wynwood

Tania and I were shopping at Target and we quickly built up an insatiable hunger. There were a gazillion people at Target and deals everywhere we turned. Our quick trip to Target turned out to be quite the adventure.

Since we were out and about, we decided to explore the Wynwood area for lunch. We don’t get out that way very often unless we are heading to Target. It’s a shame we don’t go there more often because there are so many

French Fries at Charley’s Grilled Subs in Aventura Mall

Dining at Aventura Mall

I braved the crowds of Black Friday and headed on over to the Aventura Mall. I stopped at Starbucks before I headed over to the mall to get a Gingerbread Soy Latte. Yum! There was a cop there and she said that she had to arrest someone for pulling a gun on someone else who cut in line at Best Buy. I never knew people were so serious about shopping! Luckily, I didn’t head to the mall until around noon so all the crazies were back at home fast asleep. Why on earth would anyone wake up at 4 a.m.

After about 30 minutes of shopping, my tummy startled to grumble. There was a wait at the restaurants in the mall, so we decided to head to the food court. It is Read the rest of this entry »

Randall, FFF, Jason, Joshie, Nina

After we arrived on Lincoln, the shots began. Oh dear lord… By 8:30 p.m. we lost Joshie. As a result of Joshie having too much fun on Halloween, we also lost Nina. However, we picked up some new friends along the way and Tania was soon by our side.
We stayed at Sushi Samba because of the easy access to the outside bar. It was also impossible to walk down Lincoln, so we found a nice place to hang out. Tania and I were both in 4-inch heels, so our feet couldn’t take too much more.
