Apple Valley, MN: Onion Rings at Perkins

Onion rings at Perkins.

I went to Minnesota and hung out with my girlfriends from high school. These girls have been my friends since we were 13 or 14, so it was a lot of fun to reminisce about our younger days. We spent the day together and wanted to continue hanging out, so we went out for a lot of laughs. We did the one thing that girls do when they get together for a night out… dance. We were dancing queens. I am talking about super cheesy, arms flailing and weird vibrations dancing. We didn’t care who was watching. I am just hoping there was no video.

After we had worked up a hunger, we went to Perkins for some late-night snacks. I strayed from my Read the rest of this entry »

Patrick McGovern’s Pub in Saint Paul, MN

While in Minnesota, I spent my time getting together with the people I love most. I met up with some my sister, my brother (not pictured), my oldest friend and my closest friends from college. We went to Patrick McGovern’s Pub in Saint Paul, Minnesota to catch up and hang out.

We ordered French fries and sweet potato fries to curb our hunger. I was actually surprised that the French fries at McGovern’s were not fresh-cut. I thought most Irish pubs loved potatoes as much as I do. However, I have learned that fresh-cut potatoes are not always the best. Sometimes I prefer potatoes that have been frozen as long as they come out thin, crispy and salted. Read the rest of this entry »

French Fries at Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota

French fries at Mystic Lake Casino.

I traveled to Minnesota to see the fam and catch up with old friends. I am not a big gambler, but we met up with some friends at Mystic Lake Casino to try our luck. I lost $6. I guess I am not so lucky… Oh well.

We took a little walk over to the buffet and decided to gorge on the endless rows of food. There were all sorts of fried food, snacks, entrees, desserts and side dishes. I don’t go to buffets often, so I was a little overwhelmed when trying to decide what to eat first. I headed over to the French fries, because that seemed like the logical place to start.

That French fries were salted and mildly crispy. The fun waffle shape made me smile. Ok, I’ll be honest. They weren’t very good. However, I think it would be a disservice to Mystic Lake if I set my expectations too high for the French fries. They were definitely derived from a frozen bag of potatoes and they were sitting under a heat lamp.  Buffets are all about quantity, not quality. So, as far as quantity goes, there were lots of choices. The mashed potatoes, which is my second favorite food made from my favorite tuber, were actually quite good. They were creamy, salty and yummy.

McDonald's French Fries to Soothe My Cold

I finally left Minnesota after several days of being cold. I was sad to be leaving my friends and family. I was even sadder because I had acquired a nasty cold while in Minnesota. I had to fly home and I was dreading it because my entire head was clogged. I was miserable. I was going to be even more miserable when the plane took off and my head had to adjust to the altitude change. There is nothing worse than feeling like your eyeballs are going to pop out of your head.

My misery turned to hope when I realized there was a Starbucks and a McDonald’s only a couple steps away. There were only a few more days to order specialty drinks from Starbucks, so I got a caramel brulee latte with soy from Starbucks. I then got in the line at McDonald’s for some French fries. French Fries at Pinz

I wanted to spend as much time with my friends and family while I was in Minnesota. This also meant spending time with lots of kiddies. Sometime after college everybody seemed to get married and have babies. I missed the memo and have managed to stay single, but when I go to Minnesota I love seeing all the kids growing up!

I asked all of my friends to meet me at Pinz in Woodbury, MN so everybody could bowl with the kids and hang out. This idea goes to show Read the rest of this entry »

Eating French Fries in Cabela’s in Owatonna

Stuffed animals at Cabela's... Gross.

I went to Minnesota in the dead of winter. Why? I love my family. It’s so cold up there, but once a year I make the trek and freeze my tooshie off for the entire duration of the trip. This particular trip, I was lucky enough to get a tour of the Cabela’s store in Owatonna. Well, maybe lucky is not the word. I don’t hunt. I don’t fish. I am not a big camper. The only thing that Cabela’s had that interested me was French fries.

I walked into the Cabela’s store, which is enormous. I immediately noticed dead stuffed animals Read the rest of this entry »

French Fries at Great Steak & Potato at the Mall of America

Great Steak and Potato

I love shopping. Shopping. Shopping. Shopping. When I traveled to Minnesota, I was so excited to once again visit the magnificent Mall of America. I have been there hundreds of times, but the four floors filled with stores just never gets old. There is an aquarium, an amusement park and every store you could ever want. Well, there is not a French fry store, but there are several stores that sell supplies to make French fries. There are even an abundance of restaurants that serve French fries. I was in heaven. If it wasn’t zero degrees outside, I don’t

think I would ever leave Minnesota.

I decided to eat at Great Steak & Potato simply because the word potato was in the fast food joint’s name. There were a number of different French fries Read the rest of this entry »

French Fries at White Castle in Apple Valley, Minnesota

White Castle in Apple Valley

Jason and I braved the arctic tundra of Minnesota and headed out for some French fries. When I was in college, I remember going to White Castle for late night munchies. However, they don’t have White Castle in Miami, so it has been a while since I have been to one. I have so many fond memories of White Castle from my formative years, that I thought a French Read the rest of this entry »

I went to work with my sister in Edina, Minnesota. I hung out with her all day. It was kind of like bring your daughter to work day for Sarah, but instead she brought her bored little sister. It was fun though. My sister works for a bridal store and I spent the day trying on dresses. Weddings really aren’t my thing, but my inner girly girl personality came out when I tried on about 1,000 dresses.

After I finally decided to stop trying on Read the rest of this entry »

Minnesota continued to be a lot of fun… I got to see friends and family that I have not seen in ages. My sister and I met up with my great aunt Janice and cousin Avarie. We met at the Mall of America at Ruby Tuesday. We talked, laughed and gossiped about the family. Sometime I believe my family’s lives would make a good soap opera, so the story lines are more interesting than reading the book.

Our server came and we ordered our meals. I wanted French fries and a side of veggies, but the server talked me into getting a meal Read the rest of this entry »
