New York: Amsterdam Ale House to enjoy some French Fries

Tania and I both woke up very late, but we were determined to get to yoga by 10 a.m. We got there a little after the class started, but we were still able to join the class. Phew! After a few downward dogs, Warrior I poses and a Namaste, we decided we were starving. By this time it was 11:30 a.m. and neither of us had been able to drink coffee yet, so that was the first stop. Our beloved Starbucks was just what we needed to wake up.

My friend Lou, who I met during the Super Bowl in Miami, suggested that we go to Amsterdam Inn (also known as the Amsterdam Ale House). We sat down outside and ordered our Read the rest of this entry »

New York: Highpoint Bistro and French Fries in Shopping Carts

Posted by French Fry Fairy On July - 29 - 20101 COMMENT

I discovered a new spot in New York – Highpoint Bistro. I was on twitter the other day and someone posted a picture of their French fries in a shopping cart. The minute I saw them, I knew I had to have them! As luck would have it, the restaurant that served these fries was in New York City and I happened to be in New York! Hooray.

I asked Tania to add this to our schedule because she is the planner and the one who keeps us on task. Read the rest of this entry »

Serendipity 3 in New York City is like a restaurant you would find in a fairytale. When you first walk into the restaurant, there are a ton of trinkets and treasures for sale. You can buy cupcakes on key chains, high heel earrings and lots of things with glitter. My girly censors were on overload. I loved it.

When we were seated, I felt like we were in an ice cream parlor from the 1950s. I learned that the restaurant has been around since 1954, which explains the 1950s feeling. There were chandeliers with pearls and antique furniture that was painted with whimsical colors.

I once again made the journey to New York City with Tania so we could try some more restaurants with French fries. Although Tania lives in New York part of the year, I would definitely still consider her a tourist. We don’t know that ins and outs of the city, so although we might try to mix with the locals we stick out like sore thumbs.

We decided to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art because neither of us had been in years. We tried to get a taxi, but after that was unsuccessful, we hopped on a bus.  Neither Tania nor I are accustomed to busses, but is seemed easy enough. When the time came for us to get off of the bus, confusion ensued… The back doors wouldn’t open. Finally someone just told us to push the doors. It worked! The bad news is our secret was out – everybody knew we were tourists.

After the Met, we went to Sarabeth’s on Amsterdam Avenue for Read the rest of this entry »

New York City: Pommes Frites has the Best French Fries…. Yum

I did it… I have found the most amazing French fry place in the entire world. I am in love…. I have been to New York a lot of times and I have seen all the touristy things, so my only goal when going to New York this time was to celebrate Tania’s birthday and to go to Pommes Frites.  I have heard of this little French fry place from many people, but I had no idea how amazing this place would be in person.

Going to Pommes Frites was the only thing I could talk about all morning, but I think I was the only one who was truly excited. Kevin and Tania were very accommodating… bless their hearts. We arrived at Pommes Frites and it was better than any of my dreams.  I could write all day and not give this place the credit it deserves. The French fries were Read the rest of this entry »

I was visiting New York City in celebration of Tania’s birthday. We had a day filled with shopping, eating and walking, but we were ready to eat more. We were finally out of Miami and there were so many restaurants to choose from, so we didn’t know where to start. Tania and I were starving, so we headed to a place for dinner that was close to the place we were staying. Five Napkin Burger was just around the corner, so we walked over and waited for a table.

We took a little peak at the menu and ordered Read the rest of this entry »

Untitled-1Eddie the neighbor and I took a break from our regular French fry adventures and decided to expand our quest to other parts of the country. My little side trip was a three and half hour car ride to Orlando and Eddie’s was a three and half hour plane ride to New York. Sometimes a team has to split up to cover more ground, so we were really doing this for the cause. We called each other regularly during the separation with updates in order to keep the other person involved in the loop. This was important business. Read the rest of this entry »
