Chifles Plantain Chips are Alright in My Book
Plantains make great chips and fries even though they are only kind of similar to potatoes. Well, maybe they are not that similar. Plantains are not considered tubers, basically because they don’t grow in the ground. I guess they are fruits instead of vegetables. Nobody eats the skin of plantains like they do with potatoes. The list can go on and on how they differ from one another. However, that is no reason to shun the delicious treats that are so scrumdiddlyumptious when they are fried.
I brought home some Chifles Plantain Chips so satiate my carb craving. I opened the bag and was ready to delve in to the chips. I put the first one in my mouth and was not as impressed as I had hoped I would be. They were not as crispy as potato chips, but I assume Read the rest of this entry »
Hot and Spicy BBQ Potato Chips on Halloween in South Beach
Everyone gathered at Josh’s house for a little pre-party for our Halloween celebrations. The evening started out with Stoli Doli drinks and Four Loko drinks. A Stoli Doli is basically straight vodka that has been soaking with pineapples for about a week. Four Loko is a caffeinated alcohol, which is sort of like Red Bull and vodka on crack.
So needless to say, the night was interesting.
We started the day early by drinking our adult beverages. Then, Randall (aka John McEnroe for the night) had the brilliant idea of throwing candy down to strangers on Ocean Drive from the balcony. Nina and I quickly ran to Walgreens to restock. The candy extravaganza was a blast, but Josh had to lay down some rules. Only underhanded throws and no more throwing candy across the street because after the beverages our aim kind of sucked.
In between candy throwing and drinking, a few of us decided to go Trick or Treating. Josh lives in a building with a lot of old people, so I think they were a little scared of us. We got one couple to answer the door. A cute little old lady answered. Although she did not have any Halloween candy, she did have Butterscotch hard candy. You know, the ones your grandma always gives you. After that, we gave up. It was way more fun throwing candy to people from the balcony.
So, how could this Halloween night get any better? Fried potatoes. I knew I would be in serious need of carbs, so I bought some Hot and Spicy Barbeque Chips from Lay’s when Nina and I were at Walgreens. I figured dragon breath was perfect for a spooktacular Halloween evening out. They were crispy,
crunchy, hot and had a touch of sweetness. I never see these at the grocery store, but I will probably start looking for them a little more closely. They were delicious.
After the last chip was consumed, we hopped in a cab and headed to Lincoln Road.

Alexia Onion and Garlic Oven Crinkles (French Fries)
When I was at Whole Foods, I picked up some French fries I could make at home. I bought Alexia French Fries in the Onion & Garlic flavor. Actually, Alexia wants you to leave out the fry part, so they are called oven crinkle fries. I was a little skeptical. French fries should really be fried.
I read the directions thoroughly and popped them in the oven at the right temperature. When the French fries were finished, they were ok, but not fantastic. French fries are meant to be fried, not baked. When they are baked, they never get that perfect golden brown outside and hot inside that make French fries so yummy in my tummy. I understand that people watching their figure might want to bake rather than fry. I also understand that parents should probably bake the French fries for kids so they don’t get chunky. If that is the case, they are ok. For the rest of us who just want to enjoy a hot, delicious fried snack from time to time, I think that French fries need to be fried.
So, I pulled out my handy dandy fryer. (Every good French Fry Fairy must own one!) I put in Read the rest of this entry »
Kettle Chips – Chip of the Month Club… I love Potato Chips!
Did I ever tell you how much I love Kettle Chips? The potato chips are unlike any other brands because the flavors are so unique. I like them even more because today I was sitting on the couch and UPS knocked on my door with a box full of Kettle Chips! I am now part of the Chip of the Month Club! I love my life… I was even more excited when I saw my two favorite flavors among the chips – Spicy Thai and Buffalo Bleu Kettle Chips.
I wasn’t expecting any chips, but it felt like Christmas! There I was just minding my own business and the Universe must have felt my hunger. It was about noon and I had just started thinking about lunch. I didn’t even have to order food or go out to eat. I just continued to lie on the couch, eat my chips and now I am full. Awesome.
Potato Flyers Baked Potato Chips from the Makers of Pirate’s Booty
I have always really liked Pirate’s Booty, so when the company came out with a new product, Potato Flyers, I was pretty excited. I was sent samples of all the
new flavors to try – Sour Cream & Onion, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Original and Barbeque.
The image on the bag is a pilot, so I figured I would take these on a plane to get a real feel for the potato snacks. Jason and I were each armed with two bags and we were ready to start Read the rest of this entry »
Jalapeño Cheddar Potato Chips by Archer Farms
It comes as no surprise that is rained again in Miami, so I put on my Strawberry Shortcake pajamas, grabbed some Archer Farms Jalapeño Cheddar potato chips and grabbed a cat to cuddle with on the couch. I was a little nervous to eat the chips because of my terrible experience with the General Tso flavor.
Jason really picked out the Jalapeño Cheddar chips. He didn’t trust me to pick out another flavor after the General Tso debacle. Besides, he likes spicy stuff. As a matter
of fact, Jason planted a garden in the backyard. Read the rest of this entry »
Archer Farms Potato Chips – General Tso Flavor
I was at Target the other day and I was craving some potato chips. Florida has had really rainy weather the past few days and I wanted some comfort food to keep me fat while I snuggled up under a blanket and waited for the rain to pass. I went to the potato chip aisle and picked up a couple bags of Archer Farms Potato Chips. I really enjoy Archer Farms Potato Chips because they have really unique flavors. The other brand of potato chips I really like is Kettle Brand chips. I have a hunch that Kettle Brand is the private label producer for Archer Farms. They have very similar flavors and Kettle is not sold at Target.
If I really cared that much, I could answer my own question and find out if this is true. The truth is I really don’t care as long as I get to eat delicious potato chips. I picked up General Tso Potato Chips because they
sounded scrumptious. Read the rest of this entry »
Buffalo Bleu Kettle Chips Review… I love Potato Chips
Buffalo Bleu Kettle Chips are some of the most uniquely flavored potato chips on the market. Most potato chip brands have the common flavors – Barbeque, Sour Cream & Onion, Regular and once in a while there is even Sea Salt and Vinegar.
There are two brands of potato chips that I have found that have really funky flavors. Kettle Chips and surprisingly Target’s Archer Farms brand has a bunch of really unique flavors for potato chips.
I like trying all the different flavors. When I am presented with that many choices, I feel like a kid in a candy shop. Except the candy is a potato… Read the rest of this entry »
Kettle Chips Introduces Chip-of-the-Month-Club
I have decided that on my Christmas list this year, I will be asking Santa for a membership to Kettle Chips Chip-of-the-Month-Club. I really, really love Kettle Chips. They have some of the most unique flavors with some of my favorites being – Sweet Onion, Spicy Thai and Sea Salt & Vinegar.
When you receive a Chip-of-the-Month-Club package, they are delivered in themes. There is a “Road Trip Kit” and a “Farmer’s Market Basket.” They might also send you flavors that are not being sold at stores yet!
I used to have a real job and every year I went to the Natural Products Expos. My favorite part of these Read the rest of this entry »
